I am Deputy Director of the Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research, a researcher from the Center for African Studies of the University of Porto, and a Visiting Research Fellow from the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex. My research interests include the relations between the public and the private in education in the Global South, philanthropy and education, and global education policy and the right to education.

Since 2004, I’ve held a variety of positions outside of the academy. I’ve worked as a researcher/ consultant / education specialist with field experience in Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau East Timor and South Sudan. Despite the geographical focus of my work, my experience spans beyond sub‐Saharan Africa.
I am a clear communicator and collaborator with courses in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
I am a fluent user of English and Portuguese (mother tongue) and have a good working knowledge of French and Spanish.
Since 2005 I am an active member of Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies served as Portuguese Language Community Facilitator from 2006 to 2012 and from 2014 to 2017 as an alternate member of the University of Minho in the INEE Education Policy Working Group.
I have experience in research and analyse education policies and programs (both qualitative and quantitative methods).
I worked on several collaborative research programmes/ consultancies with international aid donors and non-governmental organisations, such as UNICEF, UNESCO, Cambridge Education, National Campaign for the Right to Education (Brazilian Campaign), Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre – Cambridge University, Education Sub Saharan Africa (ESSA), Save the Children, National Network for Education for All – Cabo Verde, Christian Children’s Fund, ADRA-Angola, FEC Foundation, Portuguese Aid, University of Minho and the Unit for Education and Development Studies School from the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.
I have advanced knowledge MS Office Suite and R, excellent analysis and facilitation skills and experience in working independently to produce concrete deliverables within a set timeframe.
